FAQ

Like any community, we encounter the same questions over and over again. Is it time to start an FAQ?

Well, just that has happened on the IAwiki, courtesy of John Paul Fullerton. Is this the place to do it? I'm wondering if we can tie the FAQ to the SIGIA-L discussion a little more closely. What else would an IA FAQ be? And how would you like to be involved?

I have a vision that FAQ should be more than links to answers or information. As a community forum, it should also stimulate the social interactions within the community. The idea is "to ask some questions to the right persons" and "to get some answers from the right persons". This is not easy as I have experienced. The least that we can do is to provide links to voluntary experts. As an example in a real community: if you are sick then you are advised to go to a doctor that you choose.

Lou's idea sonds good to me: that of making a FAQ out of the SIGIA-L discussion. A lot of themes discussed in the mailing-list could be rewritten in the form of questions and answers and published as web pages, in order to be available to everyone.

Display resolution is a big problem with technical charts especially. I have been in more than one meeting where the engineer put up an absolutely unreadable tables of tiny numbers with tiny labels and said "I know you can't really read this, I'm just putting up this slide to show how complex the analysis is."
