Other Stuff?

What other services could help us as a field?

The idea of merging everyone's IA bookmark lists was suggested on SIGIA-L. How about providing that service?

Link submission and comment editing could make it easier to edit the lists.

Another possibility is contributing bookmarks at the IAwiki site.

IAwiki has a page specifically set aside for plopping down uncategorised bookmarks: LinkyLove.

There isn't much there at the moment, but everyone is welcome to submit their juiciest bookmarks there. I suspect that there wold soon spring up seperate pages for seperate categories of bookmarks.

I agree though that a custom database thingy would be where we want to take this eventually.

As a 'community of professionals', I for one would benefit greatly from the talents of others and from 'cummulative pricing' to get hosting and a template for my own Web space. Most of the templates available are horrible, and generally do not support our most common activity "blogging". Thoughts?

I would really be interested in an area where people could discuss the process they use in doing information architecture.

My educational background has provided me with a strong hci design process, but I work at a company that practices very little of that design process. Talking to colleagues, I know that I am not the only one who is in this situation.

I would be interested in an area in which we could discuss practical design processes that draw from the academic theory, but are reasonable in a rapid Internet development cycle.

I agree -- process discussion would be very useful and instructive. Some discussion would naturally accompany the deliverables exchange section, but I think what Teresa's talking about is different enough to mandate its' own area.

It could be as simple as a weblog with comments style system, or something more complicated to show different threads of thought.

Teresa and Cindy: what is your level of interest in working on a project to capture process artifacts/discussions? :-)

I'd be glad to start drafting some ideas and workflow for such a beast. I'd be in favor of the simplest possible solution, unless of course we have some closet programmers here who want to build a new system that we design.

Other stuff I'd be interested in and will require as many in the community that have the background and interest:

Metadata Standards to be able to identify what we have and all the ways we can store/search for it.(artefacts/articles/etc)

Thesaurus/Taxonomy to describe the overlaps of our fields and aid in facilitating search through all the repositories of materials in IA.

I would gladly help out on a project to get this going. I agree with Cindy that it could be as simple as a blog. From the discussion there we could figure out what to do next.

What about IA TopicMap? I mean, could we make one? :) or there is something already done in this field?
