[Sigia-l] comment/question on Senior postings

Good morning everyone,

After looking at job postings for information architects, UI desigers,
interaction designers, etc., I had a thought (just one thought) and
wanted to know if others might have the same reflections.

More than half of the postings I see have the word "Senior" in the job
title, at first leading me to believe that perhaps there are no
opportunities for those of us who are not so senior. Of course, not
hiring in non-senior positions means that there will be a dirth of
talent in few years when all of the now-senior people have moved onto
other paths or into management positions and there aren't a lot of
replacements.

However, another thought occurred to me (ok, maybe I had two
thoughts): if so many people are advertising only for someone with a
lot of experience, this might reflect that these professions are
gaining in popularity but that many companies are having a hard time
integrating UCD into their companies and think that only a senior
person would have the experience to push the UCD agenda. In these
circumstances, it might be more of a PR/marketing job w/in the company
to sell UCD and change the company culture.

Thoughts? Comments? Disagreements?

Cheers,
Theresa Putkey
