Re: [Sigia-l] Re: Sub-domain usage
This has been a timely discussion for me whilst I contemplate the
best path to take in one of my client sites- just choosing at present
between the respective approaches of:
Approach 1- Subdomain differentiation
eg www.state1.clienturl.com.au, www.state2.clienturl.com.au for
separate state based sites for a Federation, where the state site is
a unique visual look/feel for a member state/org within a larger CMS
instance (Zope/Plone)
VS
Approach 2- Folder differentiation
eg www.clienturl.com.au/state1/, www.clienturl.com.au/state2/
Just two different ways to skin a cat, but based on DNS propagation
times and the need for DNS management capability, think I'll go with
Approach 2 based on what I've seen in this thread, as it is at least
self contained within the CMS itself, and not at a different level of
site management (DNS). I had been wondering what people saw as the
preferred approach in Usability tests and you've confirmed that for
me. Thanks for your contributions..
Warm regards,
Brian Hill
