RE: [Sigia-l] more info on hover
I love this feature for Netflix because it means I don't have to open
movies in a bunch of new tabs just to get the general overview, actors
and ratings. I also like the google maps feature b/c it's easy to grab
an address and click the directions link. A9 would be better if it
actually presented useful info, but how many day to day users actually
care about Web traffic and speed? IMO it's pretty useless. I can see
potential applications for sites that present related or linked content
like "see also" or "don't forget to..." (health care - you research a
topic then hover over to see a list of tests, treatments, costs,
prescriptions etc. associated with that condition/disease. We have
separate tools for this on our site today).
i'm noticing a lot of site these days are giving users more info
about an object when they hover over a link or image. has anyone
done any user tests on how effective this interaction is? it's
similar to a tool tip, so its not so new, but it is new on the web.
here are some examples:
(hover over the title or the image for a movie)
(hover over over the site info image)
and of course, google maps:
(click on the tack on the map, to get info)
these are all in different spaces, and in some cases i think its more
useful than others (i.e., the google one works, not sure about a9).
