Often the coolest thing isn't the technology, but the fact that the
disparate rival players can pull their heads out of their respective
sandheaps for long enough to agree on a standard. If that standard is
misapplied, it does not detract from the amazing initial cooperation.
Truly, the way is infinite, and infinitely surprising. :)
