Exactly. Distillation and layers are not exclusive to text, the same
principle applies to graphics and other media. You can have a very
distilled and yet a perfectly meaningful "headline chart" that will
tell the essence of your discovery. You can have a story of someone's
life told through a single black&white photograph. You can have a
formula to represent a law of nature. You can have a drop that will
speak of an ocean. Imagination does not always need stretching, much
more often it simply needs clarity. And clarity couldn't care less
about a tool, really.
