[Sigia-l] Which profession directs the web?
Is it UI designers, technologists or advertisers who will direct the web of
the future?
One of the biggest concerns that has come up over the last year has been, in
my view, spyware and its impact on online advertising and all online
commercial transactions. Doesn't seem to have caused even a ripple on any
user interface lists or news sources I follow. We (as UI designers) may be
in danger of missing it.
I am not for one moment saying that the web should be advertising led but I
think we should be realistic and I would suggest that the majority of well
designed / innovative / 'killer app' web sites are either commercial or
commercially funded. Certainly the ones that keep me busy are.
So - who within the companies such as Microsoft, Macromedia, Google, eBay,
Yahoo, Cisco, Sun, Dell, Apple, McDonalds, Sony etc who are the professions
to watch? It is the CEOs?
