Wow.

You are all spinning your argumentative tires in very deep mud.

InfoVis has huge potential. We can all agree on that. But it is only potential.

There is no point in trying to recreate Map of the Market 3 years
later for deliveries, phone calls or books. It just won't work. At
least not on today's budgets. I am glad that this list is active, and
that the traffic is thoughtful, but could we perhaps discuss how to
visualize something practical instead of arguing about how you would
have to sell visualization to a client? This is brainy stuff, not
sales stuff. We need to work together to figure it out.

Seriously. Can we discuss a possible application?

What about if email could be visualized.... ?

Or blogs.... ?

I'd like to see the theory regarding 'agents' tied into this thread.
A visualization agent would likely be able to give me the email
overview I need, so that my coffee doesn't keep going cold.

Yeah, but anyone with any brain cells can tell that "codecs" [insert
technical jargon word of choice] will eventually
take care of that.
