It certainly is. I *adore* being involved in this type of work, however
the paying variety seems to few and far between.

I own a copy this book:

which is little more than a re-printing of 30 some odd thesis papers.
There are some amazing examples in the book -- most of them completely
impractical when we consider the ROI on such pieces (most of them being
student / research projects).

I have a couple other resources, but they are more about big glossy
photos than an analysis of the visualizations.

It's great fun to work with these problems, then again I've been
obsessing over a set of graphs this weekend...
