I don't know if you guys are aware of the Latin American Conference on
Human-Computer Interaction (CLIHC 2003) that will be held next August in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil, so I thought I would write to point you to the URL
(http://www.serg.inf.puc-rio.br/clihc2003/) and to ask you a question out of
- How do you perceive the work of AI's residing in Latin America?
The question may appear to be a bit bizarre but it arises from experiencing
the IA world in Brazil for years and always been in a work environment that
"looks up" to what is being done in North America.
This reverence to the job you people have done along the years is certainly
great as it sets the bar high enough for everyone to keep trying harder, at
the same time too much esteem and love of foreign culture from higher
management usually blinds them to unique and innovative local tactics.
I am also writing a paper for the CLIHC 2003 called "Information
Architecture and Web Usability in The Brazilian Web Development Community:
Breaking the Barriers and Spreading the Word at a Small Pace" so my
curiosity also has to do with my interest about why it is so damn hard to
get people to understand what we do - a problem I am certain everyone has
We are always analyzing what YOU do - I would very much like to hear what
you feel about what WE do. Advanced thank yous for any comments.
P.S: If you are interested in participating in the CLIHC 2003 on August
17-20, 2003, submission dates for Full Papers, Panels, Short Papers and
Posters will be open until the end of March. And yes, they are all
acceptable in English ;)
