I didn’t sense quite as much cultural imperialism in Jacob N’s
AlertBox as Samantha did. However, I was tremendously amused by
Jacob’s oddly-worded plug for the NNGroup’s report:
“Our 64-page report on how to recognize holidays and special
occasions in Web design is available for download.”
For 38 bucks (PDF) I hope they send me more than just diagrams
explaining how to identify a jpg Christmas tree.
Possible writing sample: ”Pumpkins have long symbolized Halloween in
much of North America, although there is evidence to suggest reduced
pumpkin activity in some Canadian provinces. Pumpkins are easily
recognized by their roundish shape and orange color (approximately
84% are websafe FF9900). Our studies show that as many as 67% feature
carved faces, of which 31% are toothless. (See Fig. 27a,
Jack-O-Lantern).”

Eric
