There are some folks at CMU working on using in-car cameras to monitor the
facial expressions of the driver. The idea is that in a panic-stop
situation the driver's facial expression can alert the computer to a
dangerous situation and let it take over. This is supposed to be quicker
than sensing a "hard stomp" on the brake pedal and THEN applying maximum
braking pressure. Surely it's more complex than that, but what a fun way to
drive: smile to go faster, scream to stop.
