Howdy,
Here's a big question : are the visual representations of a site (sitemap) valuable to a development group?
The sitemap is in a format (typically Inspiration, Visio or Illustrator) that is not compatible with coded development. Thus the answer we've been finding is yes, but only as valuable as they interpret or remember, or as good as the IA explains it.
Because of this, I've been working on a side project that takes a visual, hierarchal sitemap (usually for a content based site), and exporting it to XML.
The XML is then uploaded to a directory that contains some basic templates for presentation and XSLT is used to create a prototype site.
Each node on the sitemap that represents a page is then created along with additional XML files : Content, and Related Links (we make heavy use of contextual nav that isn't reflected in the heirarchy). Standard navigation is divined and written to the templates from the hierarchal structure of the XML.
Writers can then go into the content.xml file through a web interface and enter or edit text, IAs can then make changes to the sitemap.xml and have those pages created or existing pages removed.
We're attempting to make this a standard part of our workflow, is anyone else working towards something of this nature?
