I spent 10 years in software development and can tell you this thing:
marketing works.

It doesn't matter how good your product or service is, if no one
knows about it, they won't get it. They may re-invent it, but they
won't find you. The best technology does not always win, or
Microsoft would not dominate so much.

Sigh.
