You are right in that the Flamenco solution is a specific solution to a
specific problem. It is not "the final solution for all searches"...
But we are experimenting with more (some non-image) datasets. The system
architecture is flexible enough that this can be done relatively simply.
Also, we know that broadening the search is currently a weakness of the
interface. It would be nice to be able to add extra values from a facet
into the search (e.g., choose building made of both stone and wood). We
could not figure out a simple way to do that without making the interface
cluttered. If any of you have examples of effective broadening of search,
then could you please mail me (the url, screen shot, or description). We
would very much appreciate it.
I guess I should add that I am one of the Flamenco people. Generally a
lurker on the list.
