I'm not sure I'd describe it as "bitching," but instead of saying:
"Am I correct in assuming that the list owners have decided to convert the
list from private to public, without asking the list members?"
...you might have used more gentle terms, such as:
"Was this list always public? And should it be now? Here are some reasons
that list members might want to be concerned about privacy..."
Although you framed it as a question, your words seemed to imply that a
change was being made, and that it was being done so in a way that would
violate list members' privacy. At least it sounded that way to me and,
apparently, some others.
In any case I'm hoping we can move on, and that you (and others) *will*
frame the privacy concerns and suggest solutions.
