SIGIA-L: pre-registration blues

Hi All,

A client of mine is developing a promotional site to help launch a new line
of products. While the content of the site would certainly be of interest
to his target audience, all of it falls into the marketing/promotional
category. The rub is, he wants to require registration to enter the site.
I've tried to argue that such a requirement would function as a barrier to
info that he really wants potential customers to see, but I'm falling short
of convincing him.

Can anyone point me to any studies, statistics or good articles that would
support my argument? Also, does anyone know of any success stats (customer
info captured) for this kind of required registration?

I don't hold out much hope for the latter, but I know I've seen stuff on the
former somewhere. I just can't find it now that I need it. Please reply to
me directly and I'll summarize for the list.

Thanks in advance,

Tom Brzezina
