What you really need to think about are facets. That is what are the
different dimensions or ways of describing the objects in your collection.

>From your example, I'd consider the following facets: language (English,
Japanese), geographic location [of subject] (Japan, Tokyo), subject
(physicist, scientific discoveries). Using those facets (and others as
necessary) as fields in your database, allows users the maximum flexibility
in searching.
