RE: SIGIA-L: Education Programs query

Wanted to thank everyone, so far, who has responded to this. I'd looked at
alo of these programs expcept for U of C's Graham School program. Here is
the problem I am facing; I was hoing to find a program that integrated
aspects of design, content development and management and some technical
stuff though was looking more for XML than anything else. I'd rather not
concentrate on technical aspects but rather content and design.

DePaul comes the closest but does not offer XML courses and little on
content. I've actually been in contact with the City of Chicago dept. of
education who is working with DePaul in an effort to get American citizens
high-tech training and have been looking at this program for awhile. CIW
doesn't include much that I am interested in learning or don't already
know(not big on learning Java). The best bet would be the IIT Institute of
design, probably, but I don't have $23,000 a year to spend on a Masters as
my current student debt is enough to stop me from buying a car or a house.

I was considering UIC communications dept. as they have a rather flexible
program and will include new media development as part of a Masters degree.
I am also considering just following my heart, getting a Masters in Creative
Writing and living on Ramen ;)

I would think by this time more schools would have more diverse web
development programs other than CS degrees. The only options seem to be
continuing education programs such as DePaul's. And with the exception of
the program I found at Georgetown they all seem about a year behind (which
certainly isn't bad for academic institutions).

Has anyone else recently had a similar predictament?

Thanks to all those who have responded again and thanks to all in general,

Sean

This seems similar to the Certified Internet Webmaster Designer (CIW)
certification (http://www.ciwcertified.com/). It appears there are several
training locations in and around Chicago
(http://www.ciwcertified.com/locator/TrainingCenters.asp?comm=home&llm=9&sta
te=IL).
Does this help?
