SIGIA-L: Fun with Excel and Visio

Hi there
Pardon the second message, if you've received it - I'm having some problems
with my mailer. We're facing some projects with largish content inventories,
most of which are prepared in Excel. We're trying to reduce some of the data
entry involved in generating the shapes and entering information in Visio.
We're hoping we can make three things happen:
1. Ideally, Visio drawing should generate as many new shapes as there are
content items in the Excel spreadsheet.
2. The drawing should populate each shape with the content item number, it's
name and a little bit of other information.
3. When the sheet changes (ie we change the title of content item 106) in
the Excel sheet, we really like it to change in the drawing (data source is
linked to drawing).
We've searched our third party Visio manual and we have a developer trying
to sort it out, but as usual, the documentation "hints" at some ways of
doing it but never really makes it clear as to how.
Anybody ever done this or seen a better third party manual that could tell
us how?
Dave
