Dear fellow IA's and friends of the IA community,
This month the ChicagoIA SIG will be learning about:
The Care and Feeding of Information Architects at Argus Associates
The information architecture world was shocked when Argus Associates,
the eminent information architecture firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan,
announced the closing of their operations last month. Fred Leise, a
former employee of Argus, will share his experiences in working with
one of the leaders in the field of information architecture.
No RSVP's are required but please be aware that seating is limited.
We hope to see you there!

The Care and Feeding of Information Architects at Argus Associates
Argus Associates closed their doors in March of this year, but their
legacy will live on through their contributions, from their best-
selling O'Reilly book on information architecture to their help in
creating a new IA community.
Join us at our April Chicago IA SIG meeting where former Argus employee
Fred Leise will discuss the nature of Argus's culture, their
Information Architecture training process, and their methods for
keeping 13 Information Architects (the largest co-located group of IAs
in the country) motivated and interested.
Fred Leise was hired as an Information Architect at Argus Associates in
the summer of 2000. Prior to that, he worked as a freelance indexer for
scholarly and trade books and journals, including work for University
of Chicago Press, Oxford University Press and Columbia University
Press, and served on the board of directors of the American Society of
Indexers. Fred is also currently a member of the American Society for
Information Science and Technology.
In addition to his indexing work, he had a 25-year career in arts
management, as a staff member of a variety of performing arts
organizations, working in budgeting and finance, organizational
planning, and general management capacities.
Fred received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from University of
Maryland and earned a certificate in the Publishing Program from The
University of Chicago. While at Argus, Fred worked on projects for
LookSmart, Morningstar.com and L.L. Bean, as well as leading teams
codifying Argus's comparative analysis and classification scheme
methodologies. He also revamped the organization's IA training
procedures.
