Concept Draw (www.conceptdraw.com) is, I find, a very powerful program,
though not entirely intuitive YET. It's in the works, actively supported and
passionately developed by an independent company that is striving to make it
one of the most powerful tools on the market. It's cross-platform too,
simultaneously developed.

It's not a perfect world, and we don't have perfect tools yet, but I find
Concept Draw much easier and more powerful to use on my Mac than running
Visio under Virtual PC. The only other decent alternative for serious
diagramming is PowerPoint, and that's a pretty long step down from the
flexiblity and raw power of Concept Draw. But you have to work with it some.
I will grant, yes, it's not quite "there" in terms of polished UI, but it's
the best thing the Mac has got.

I have created numerous successful deliverables with it, and have gotten
pretty quick with it. You can create clickable maps, output them to HTML,
create your own "template" objects and save them in the library palette,
lots of great stuff. They're working on a better UI (more photoshop-ish,
without getting sued for it) and better layer control, for example, for
their next major generation (v2.0).

Don't be turned off by the website they have, it's klunky but serviceable.

The great thing about these developers is that they are very responsive and
are working to incorporate users' needs into the product. IA's have a chance
to help shape a product to their liking here.

(and, nope, I'm not getting a cut of Concept Draw's sales...though the way I
keep pushing it I might ask for some!) <grin>
