Chuck, While "iastandards.org" may be a misnomer, I don't recall you claiming to be a premier brand strategist. :) "Computerliteracy.com" was a very descriptive name, but most agree that "FatBrain" is a better brand. www.fatbrain.com Get the content & value proposition right and names are secondary. I think you have a great idea, but it seems similar to (but not exactly the same as) the type of goals that Argus has worked toward with the ACIA site. I think your ideas would expand the depth & breadth of content that ACIA has, but it would take some time to become as recognized. If the Argonauts have similar goals for ACIA, it may be better to try and work with them to build one site. But if folks have different ideas, a little competition and/or variety is always good. :) There's a site that I've used for similar types of things, but in a Project Management practice area. Check out http://www.gantthead.com. Note that I can't say their name is any better..."GanttHead", as anyone familiar with Project Management knows, is as geeky as you can get. Gantt being a type of project planning chart. They do provide some really good templates, processes, examples, etc. for various types of projects including web. Check it out. I've often thought about starting a usability site, but not sure how one would improve much on usableweb.com -- "the Yahoo of usability sites". (Keith, if you use that tagline, you owe me $10. Of course legal wrangling with Yahoo over trademark infringement will be your responsibility.) :) Regards, Lyle Kantrovich User Experience Architect Cargill http://www.cargill.com -----Original Message----- From: Chuck.Lutz@telelogic.com [mailto:Chuck.Lutz@telelogic.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 12:08 AM To: sigia-l@asis.org Subject: SIGIA-L: "Standards" - something wicked this way comes? Hi folks, Regarding possible negative connotations of the term "standards" - to be honest I too reserve a tad of skepticism (for healthy balance), but I am quite "pumped" to see what happens. Some scenarios I imagine: 1) iastandards.org becomes a great resource for info on common best practices, perhaps ultimately serving as some sort of measure of the IA "body of knowledge". Consensus forms around the idea that X or Y is a "standard thing to do", and great examples and descriptions abound, but we never see e.g. "Web Standard XJ5000" (and collectively decide we don't want to!) =========================================================================== List archives are available at: http://www.listquest.com/computers/tier2/computer_misc.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe or unsubscribe, send mail to majordomo@asis.org with the appropriate command from the list below in the body of the message: subscribe sigia-l subscribe sigia-l-digest unsubscribe sigia-l unsubscribe sigia-l-digest
