SIGIA-L: Thoughts on Argus Associates

I too was saddened to hear that Argus Associates will cease operations. When
I first read "Information Architecture for the World Wide Web" (the Polar
Bear Book), it was a revelation. Lou and Peter articulated ideas that I had
thought about but never put into words so clearly. Their book inspired me to
successfully pitch my own ideas for improving my organization's Web site.
One of the things that drew me into the book right away was the creative
beginning of chapter one, where one of the authors talks about the
atmosphere in a "dark, smoky bar with original tin ceilings and exposed
brick walls," then goes on to discuss the "impressions that physical
structures make on us" and then segues into the subject of Web site
architecture.
Someone once said "There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time
has come." Lou, Peter, and their colleagues at Argus have spread powerful
ideas about information architecture whose time has come indeed.
