I've just taken a look at the site. The "wide array of items" is about 38 or 39 different objects. As for the organization, it is simply a single linear (uncategorized) array of all the objects. They are first displayed in groups of eight. If you click on "next" you get the next (unorganized) group of eight items. Click on any single item in the display of 8 and you get more information about that item. Clicking on "next" from any item simply brings you to the next item in the linear array.
Thirty or forty items are easy enough to browse through one-by-one if you've got the time, but this certainly wouldn't work for a department story. Just don't try searching for a specific item; there is no search facility. Nor is there any organization to the order in which the items are presented.

In Style Magazine's "Site of the Month" for December 2000 is mousseshop.com. Here's what the magazine says about it (bolding is mine):
Sells: "A wide array of hip finds from around the world...New items are added three times a year."
Navigation: "The site has no particular organization scheme. Browsing through this deconstructed department store is like snooping around the apartment of your coolest friend."
"The site first launched in Europe this past summer. Its success prompted the recent U.S. debut."
I haven't been able to log on, so I can't give an opinion.
