Good articles, but I really have to protest Cynthia
Levay's comment:
'Having abandoned the "book ghetto" and the image of
glasses and hair buns, librarians have commercialized
on their ability to manage knowledge and information.'
I've been called a "sellout" by those librarians stuck
in the "ghetto."
Do we need to ghettoize public service to feel better
about ourselves?
We *all* do valuable work. And we do what we do in
what sector we do because we love the work. Some
happen to love public service.
I'm embarrassed that my colleagues in the public
sector have to slog it out at significantly lower pay.
And I'm embarrassed by Miss Levay's characterizations.
