Andres, you are correct about the separation of
personalization and content management in different
providers. The portal vendors are typically the ones
who provide personalization tools. This includes
Epicentric, Autonomy, and Viador (among others, I'm
sure).

Of these, I have only worked with Epicentric. It uses
templates to contact "modules" (similar to the modules
in any portal, including my yahoo). These modules are
.jsp pages that interact with the Epicentric
framework.
