RE: SIGIA-L: Visio => MS Word/PDF

I've found that the easiest import from Visio to Word is as follows:

+ select the desired Visio objects, i.e. ctrl-A, select all on a particular
Visio page

+ copy them, ctrl-C

+ right click on the Word document at the desired point of insertion, and
paste it. This gives you maximum control over where the object is placed,
if you just use ctrl-V the paste will take place at the position of the
cursor.

-- Upsides:

+ Word document has high quality vector images, not crunchy GIFs
+ You can edit these diagrams from within Word: doubleclicking them opens a
version of Visio.
+ You can resize as desired.

-- Downsides

+ Large documents (60+ pages) with many such diagrams take up a lot of RAM,
makes the system slightly unstable. Save frequently! Better, use "Save
As", and save a new clean version of your file.
+ Printing from Word (or printing to PDF, since this is basically a Print
function) can be a nightmare. Hint: turn off "background printing" in
"Print Options", and go have a few cups of coffee.
+ If you edit these diagrams within Word, then you have a version control
problem - make sure to update the original Visio
