Re: SIGIA-L: IA re WAP

I've been researching WAP as it applies to IA for a few weeks now due to
my own increasing interest in the technology and integrating my skills as
an IA with this industry. The biggest problem I have found is a lack of
quantifiable user feedback or research that IA recommendations can be
based on. I've contacted makers of wireless devices with the expectation
that they have performed this research and would want it distributed to
facilitate development on their devices but so far they have been
tight-lipped.

I do feel that wireless development posses challenges to IA that are
exponentially greater than anything faced to date in wired web
development, however, I hesitate to take as extreme a position as Jakob
Nielsen. The only significant change we will see in the next couple of
years is in the speed and range of these devices. The major issue, as
Chuck indicated, of screen size as well as user input capabilities will
still be there. I agree with Mr. Nielsen that the 2002 WAP devices will
far surpass those on the market today, however, as we all know from the
monumental pace of technological advancement, the 2003 devices will make
the 2002 devices obsolete anyway. I don't think we can or should sit
around waiting for the perfect WAP device anymore than we should stop
using our computers until the perfect operating system is developed.

Just my humble opinions. Good day all.

What do people think are the "best practices" for wireless application
protocol with regard to IA?
Thanks.
