Well, I think that's the crux of it right there. Make sure pop-ups are a
"pull" not a "push" and make the transition from base screen to sub-task
popup as smooth as possible (visually, in writing, and in flow). As for
advertising, one of the newer vehicles is pull-oriented -- see the ad window
("advertisement -- explore within this space") embedded in some stories on
cnet.com -- including in that story on popup hatred.
